She was born July 26, 1917, in LaCrosse, Indiana, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Wittmer) Troxel and has been a Kalamazoo resident since 1942. She was employed for many years as a library clerk at Kalamazoo Central High School. Ruth also enjoyed working in the libraries at the church and Friendship Village. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo. Ruth was known for her warmth, friendliness and generosity among her many friends and for her unwavering love of her family. On August 19, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Monroe Brewer who preceded her in death on January 15, 2002. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a sister and four brothers. Surviving are her children, Annette (James) Dudgeon of Tuscaloosa, AL, Charlotte (John) Mullin of Overland Park, KS, and John E. (Carol) Brewer of Clarence, NY; grandchildren, Michael (Lori) Dudgeon, Brian (Carlye) Dudgeon, Andrew Mullin, Peter Mullin,! Adam Brewer and Katherine Brewer; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew, Daniel and Elizabeth Dudgeon. A Memorial Service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 15 at the First United Methodist Church (212 S. Park St.) with Rev. Dr. Douglas Vernon and Rev. Sandra Elfring officiating. Following the memorial service the family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:30 PM in the KIVA at Friendship Village (1400 N. Drake Rd.) for a time of food and fellowship. Memorials in Ruth's memory may be directed to the First United Methodist Church, the Friendship Village Employee's Fund, or the Friendship Village Library Fund.
