Age 95 Of Richland, MI Formerly of Anderson, IN Died peacefully Friday afternoon, March 21, 2008, at his residence. John was born on December 21, 1912 in Pendleton, IN and was the son of Fred and Bessie (Brandon) Harrison. He graduated in 1934 with his degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, Lafayette, IN. John started his career with General Motors in Muncie, IN and in 1936, he was sent to New Jersey with Delco Battery. When World War II began, he volunteered in the Navy Air Corps as a flight instructor. In 1944, he married the former, Peggy Myers of Montclair, NJ and their marriage of 61 years ended with her death on December 23, 2005. After the war, he established Delco Battery plants around the world and finished his career as the Manufacturing Manager at four battery plants, retiring in 1974. John is survived by his son, Jay M. (Molly) Harrison of Chesterton, IN; his two daughters, Jessica A. Harrison of Tucson, AZ and Susan J. (Jeff Price) Harrison of Richland, MI; by his granddaughter, Laura (Jeff) R! yan of Brooklyn, NY; his great-granddaughter: Anne Harrison and his great- grandson, Maxwell Jay Lewis of Philadelphia, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maurine Jacobs. Cremation will occur as per John's wishes. A private gathering of family and friends will be held in Richland to celebrate his life. A memorial service will be held in Anderson, IN in the Summer of 2008. He will be interred next to his wife, Peggy at Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, IN. Memorial contributions in John's honor may be made to either the Covenant House Senior Day Program, 9400 East CD Avenue, Richland, MI, 49083 or to The Monticello House, 1015 Monticello Drive, Anderson, IN, 46011. John was a man for all seasons: a loving husband and father, and grandfather, a good friend, an active member of his community, a world traveler, a sailor, a pilot, a dedicated career man, a golf and tennis devotee, a hunter, and above all...a delightful tease and admirer of high heels!
