She was born August 28, 1922 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Claude and Cecil Stephenson. She grew up in Vicksburg with her younger sister, LaVon. After graduating from Vicksburg High School in 1940, she worked at Gilmore's department store for 1 1/2 years. Lorene married Gerald R. Smith on November 16, 1941. The couple owned and operated Smith Radio and Television for 36 years and the Smith Income Tax Service for 30 years. Lorene was an avid golfer, bowler, bridge player and loved to travel. The couple traveled extensively in the U.S. and abroad. Gerald passed away June 6, 2007. Lorene is survived by her sister, LaVon Dorrance and two sons, Ronald of Vicksburg and Stephen of Chicago; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
