Roberta was born November 14, 1929 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the daughter of Will and Georgia Thomas. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was a member and Stewardess of Allen Chapel AME Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Roberta retired from Bronson Hospital after over thirty seven years of nursing, where she went above and beyond the call of duty in helping people. Roberta leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Nathaniel (Carol) Owens of Kalamazoo, MI and Edgar (Molly) Ferguson III of Chicago, IL; her two daughters, Debra and Virgie Ferguson, of Kalamazoo, MI; her two sisters, Jesse Mae Carver and Beatrice Jones; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Amy Pear of Chicago, IL and Ray Abbey of Clarkdale, Miss; one uncle, Jess Smith of Kalamazoo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Ferguson Jr.; two children, Charle! s and Brenda Ferguson; two sisters, Rosa Lee Murry and Mary E. Battle; and one brother, TJ Thomas. Although Roberta has left this life, her legacy will live on through all who knew and loved her. Services will be held Wednesday March 26, 2008 at 12:00 Noon with an 11:00 AM family hour at the Allen Chapel AME Church, with Pastor Neal Smith officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6-8 PM.
