He was born on December 16, 1913 in Freeport, the younger of two children to Jessiah and Elizabeth (Whiley) Knowles. Woody was employed by Consumers Power for 43 years, until his retirement in 1973. He loved to play cards and enjoyed watching baseball. On July 2, 1936, he was united in marriage to Helen Thaler in Angola, IN, who preceded him in death on October 20, 1998. Also preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Orno Knowles and one grandson, Scott Knowles. Surviving are his four children, Larry (Judy) Knowles of East Leroy, Don (Pat) Knowles of Battle Creek, Ardith (Norman) Schafer of Tekonsha and Roger (Leila) Knowles of Climax; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; close nephew, Randy Knowles and special friend, Helen Hart. Funeral services for Woody will be at 11 AM Friday at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Climax Chapel, 205 E. Maple Street, with Pastor James R! oberts, officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
