Age 83 Of Spring Lake Passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence in Muskegon. She was born March 21, 1925 in Grand Rapids, to James and Anna (Schmiezer) Campbell. Betty graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School and attended nurses' training at St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing through the Nurse Cadet program in 1946, during World War II. She worked for over 30 years at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo as a house nursing supervisor, retiring in 1987. On October 18, 1947, she married Francis "Frank" Deschaine in Grand Rapids. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1975. Betty moved to Spring Lake five years ago to be near her family after 45 years in Kalamazoo. She enjoyed golfing, reading and spending time with her family. She is lovingly remembered by her five daughters, Corinne Galles of Kalamazoo, Anne (Gil) Naru of Lexington Park, MD, Pat (Kirk) Breitels of Spring Lake, Joan (Dan) Copeland of Ft. Wayne, IN and Cathy (Rich) Campbell o! f Kettering, OH; four sons, Frank (Darien) Deschaine of Eastham, MA, Mark (Marnie) Deschaine of Belleville, IL, Joe (Kelli) Deschaine of Delton, MI and John (Karen) Deschaine of South Haven; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret O'Guin of Long Beach, CA; one brother, Robert (Mary) Campbell of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, William and James Campbell. The service for Betty will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, April 4, 2008 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Karel, officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday, April 3rd at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Memorial contributions to the American Red Cross, Borgess Medical Center, or the Leila & Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence are appreciated.
