Leo passed away December 26, 2009 at home. Leo was born in Benton Harbor on February 15, 1935 the son of Darrell and Margaret (Muryne) Calkins. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of St. Augustine Cathedral, an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America with a troop of developmentally disabled scouts, a member of Knights of Columbus #1616, a founding member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and was a member of the Kalamazoo Wings Booster Club. He was preceded in death by a sister Lois Boss. Leo is survived by his wife Patricia whom he married May 1, 1965 and three children Michael Calkins, Carol Calkins both of Kalamazoo and Theresa (Kevin) Ouzts of Lawrence; four grandchildren Joshua, Andrew, Kaleb and Isaiah and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received today, Tuesday December 29, 2009 from 2 - 4 and 6 until 8 PM at the REDMOND Funeral Home 4100 S. Westnedge- 343-6156 Where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated December 30, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Augustine Cathedral. Msgr. Thomas Martin Celebrant. Burial will be in Mt.. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cancer Center of S.W. Michigan or Southern Care Hospice.
