Rose was born July 18, 1925 in Richland, a daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Pennington) Ames and was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area. She was a hair dresser for over 30 years, working in several salons. On November 11, 1945, Rose married Walter W. Rice, who preceded her in death on March 7, 1996. She was also preceded by her parents; a son, Walter W. Rice, Jr. in 1969; five brothers; and three sisters. Surviving are her children, David, Sr., (Pat) Rice of Kalamazoo, Diane J. Rice of Otsego, Bruce (Marianne) Rice of Kalamazoo, Ronald Rice (Laurie Schutz) of Bangor and Ruth (Wayne) Pushie of Kalamazoo; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a former daughter-in-law, Mary Traxler; four sisters, Mary (Alvin) Lambert, Ardith Bradley, Sandra (Claude)Weston and Bernice Stevens; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM in th! e Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. with Rev. Al Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-5 PM and on Monday beginning at 10:00 AM until service time. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
