Dr. Robert F. Lockwood, 86, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Inn at Quail Haven in Pinehurst, North Carolina. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held in the spring. He is survivied by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy: four children, Bob Lockwood (Jenni) of Portland, OR, Carol Roche (Jim) of Portage, MI, Janet Larsen (Arne) of Portland, OR, and Jim Lockwood (Barb) of Gilbert, AZ. He had nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was born May 2, 1923, to the late Robert F. Lockwood and Ruth Marie Lockwood. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1941. He attended Western Michigan University and entered the Army in 1943, serving in Europe from 1944-1946. He met and married Dorothy Stoddard, who was an Army nurse, in Nancy, France on January 18,1946. Lockwood then returned to Western Michigan University where he graduated and went on the University of Detroit Dental School in 1951. Practicing dentistry in Kalamazoo and Portage for 31 years, he w! as a life member of the American Dental Association, the Michigan Dental Association. He was past president of the Kalmazoo Valley Dental Society, past president of the Kalamazoo South Rotary, and a member of the Portage School Board for eight years. Retiring to North Caroline in 1982, he served on various boards in Seven Lakes and Pine Grove Village, and was president of the AARP chapter in Southern Pines.
