Of Kalamazoo Passed away December 26, 2009 at Bronson Hospital. She was born March 18, 1931 in Oundle, England to the late Edwin J. and Doris (Craythorne) Hooton. Maureen was united in marriage on December 31, 1954, to James Phillips in Oundle, Church. James was a USAF veteran, stationed at Molesworth R.A.F. Base when they met. They returned to the USA and then traveled extensively in the U.S. and in Germany. Upon retirement, they settled in Kalamazoo at 1906 Dorchester, where they lived for 33 years before moving to their current address. Maureen loved cooking and shopping. She loved time with family and gardening. Surviving Maureen are, her daughter, Leslie (Kelly) Johnson of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren, Jamie and Scott Johnson; brothers, Ralph (Pat) Hooton, Peter (Sheila) Hooton, John (Helle) Hooton; sisters, Audrey Knight, Gwen (Michael) Parker, Jean (Ian) Taylor, Sheila (Malcolm) Wicks, Brenda (Norman) Graves, Janice Newell; several nieces and nephews. Also preceding Maureen in dea! th were, a son, Robert J. Phillips; two brothers, and three sisters. Family will greet friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8:00 o'clock at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3296 S. 9th St., where services will take place on Thursday at 11:30, Pastor Scott Burdick, officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
