Age 58 Of Kalamazoo After a three - month battle with pancreatic cancer, Karl entered into eternal peace on January 5, 2010. Karl was born on June 3, 1951 in Detroit, MI, the son of Julius and Lottie (Materka) Kucab. Karl was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. He graduated from DeLaSalle Catholic High School in 1969. He completed both a Bachelors Degree in business and a Masters Degree in Criminology at Western Michigan University. He married his high school sweetheart, Penny Kirk in 1971. Karl worked for the Kalamazoo Juvenile Home as head of the 9th District Probation Department and the Kalamazoo Probation Enhancement Program (KPEP) for over a decade. In the mid 80's he began working as a recruiter for Management Recruiters of Kalamazoo. In 1992, he opened his own business as a recruiter for the plastics industry. Karl was an avid card-player, world traveler, Michigan State Spartan fan and coached various sports for his three children. Mostly, Karl loved to golf. While battling his illne! ss, he birdied the "Famed 17th Hole" at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Verde Beach, FL. Karl was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Besides his parents, Karl is survived by his wife of 38 years, Penny (Kirk) Kucab; three children: Karrie (David) Lange of LaGrange, IL; Amie Kucab of Ferndale, MI and Daniel Kucab of Oklahoma City, OK; two grandchildren: Henry and Charlotte Lange; two brothers, Gerald Kucab (Rob Smith) of Southfield, MI and Kenneth (Patricia) Kucab of Grosse Ile, MI and several nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 6-8 PM at REDMOND Funeral Home 4100 S. Westnedge Ave. (269) 343-6156 where a Rosary will be recited Friday evening at 7:30 PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at St. Monica Catholic Church. Fr. Larry Farrell Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Monica Catholic Church.
