She was born October 11, 1934 in Waynesboro, MS, the daughter of the late Deacon George and Geneva Robinson, and the oldest of six siblings. She graduated from Waynesboro Vocational High School in 1953 and continued her education attending Harris Junior College in Meridian, MS, where she studied interior decorating. Juanita married the late Charlie Patrick Shaw Sr. on February 12, 1955, in Waynesboro, MS, and from their union four children were born. While residing in Waynesboro, she was self-employed as a private housekeeper and she also worked at Beck's Motel in the housekeeping department as an inspector. Juanita moved to Mobile, AL in February of 1957 and was employed by Mobile Linen Service. While residing in Mobile, she joined Holmes Street Missionary Baptist Church, and as a faithful member she served as secretary! of the Senior Choir and the Matrons. In August of 1970, she moved to Kalamazoo, MI and joined Faith Temple Church of God under the leadership of Bishop Tommie D. Lockett, where she received the Holy Ghost and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. As a faithful member of Faith Temple for 39 years, Juanita has served as church secretary, and vice-president of the Senior Usher Board. She also served as program organizer for the churches' homecoming program for numerous years. Juanita was known to work willingly and faithfully in every capacity that she was assigned. in May of 1982 Juanita briefly married Lark Taylor. She was employed at Kalamazoo Laundry for eight years and then worked for Humphrey Products for almost fourteen years before taking an early retirement in 1991, to care for her mother full-time. She was also an entrepreneur with various side jobs, such as selling Avon, vitamins, clothing accessories and dinners out of her home. In 2007, she volunteered for Seni! or Services as a Patient Sitter, which she truly enjoyed, until her he alth failed her. She was a Godly woman of kindness, goodness and helpfulness; and for many years she opened her home to help people in need, utilizing her home as a boarding house and a welcome house for guest ministry speakers visiting Faith Temple. She was known as the woman with healing hands. She loved serving the Lord, traveling, shopping, reading and being around people, family and friends. Juanita had exceptional taste in fashion and decorating, as she loved to wear fine dress suits and hats. For those who knew her, they will remember a sweet spirited, funny, caring, and faithful mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, friend and devoted member of Faith Temple Church of God, who dearly loved her pastor and church family. Sister Juanita was preceded in death by toddler daughter, Anita Jewel Shaw; infant son, Isodore Alonzo Shaw; one son-in-law, Rudy McPherson Sr.; four siblings, infant girl Robinson, Mother Daisy L. King, Bishop George E. Robinson and Mother Girtha L. McM! illian. Sister Juanita is survived by two children Patricia A. McPherson and Charlie P. (Jackie) Shaw Jr., both of Kalamazoo, MI; five grandchildren Shamesha R. (Jeffrey) Brown (reared as a daughter) of Dayton, OH; Ashiya (Mikus) Nelson of Atlanta, GA; Charlie P. Shaw III; Rudy McPherson Jr. and Octavia G. McPherson all of Kalamazoo, MI; three great-grandchildren Alexis Nelson of Atlanta, GA; Mercedes Nelson and Mikus Nelson both of Kalamazoo, MI; one devoted sister, Mary Y (Frankie) Taylor of Mobile, AL; one uncle, Thomas J. (Vivian) Dawkins of Citronelle, AL; one sister-in-law, Joyce Robinson of Kalamazoo, MI; two brother-in-laws, Elder Oren McMillian and Minister James Floyd King of Kalamazoo, MI; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Also, a god-sister, Georgia Bates; godchildren, Todd (Melinda) Lockett, Andrea Butler, Elder Rickey (Kherri) Woods and Trina (Princess and Morgan) White; special friends, Marie Bennette Ware, Johnella Cunningham, Odessa Nelso! n, Deacon and Mrs. James Hamilton, Carol Hogan, and Gloria Giles. A Ho megoing Celebration will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, with a 12 Noon Family Hour at The Galilee Baptist Church, Bishop Tommie D. Lockett, officiating. Friends may view 6-8 PM Monday at Faith Temple Church of God. Interment Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Arrangements by the Harper Funeral Home, 521 Douglas Avenue, 342-1000.
