Jack was born December 17, 1928 in Kalamazoo, MI, a son of Floyd and Margaret (Boekeloo) Short and was a lifelong resident. Jack's father died when Jack was only 12 years old and he was raised by his step-father Darrel Camburn. He was a graduate of Sturgis High School, Class of 1946. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and while in the service was trained in photography. He was extremely creative and had an eye for photography. He owned and operated Jack Short's Commercial Photography for many years. Jack was a long time member of the Northwest United Methodist Church and also a member of the Civitan Club, past president of the Advertising Round Table, member of the Metal Detecting Club and a founder of the Bottle Digging Club. He loved life and loved his family. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a son Earl Nutter and a step-brother Dale Camburn. On May 17, 1959, Jack was married to Betty McEwen! , who survives. Also surviving are four children, Jean (Ron) Kasiorek of Grand Rapids, Joan (Tom) Field of Lawrence, Mark Nutter of Kalamazoo and Spring (Vida) Venema of Otsego; six grandchildren, Stacy Field of Lawrence, Jason (Kathy) Kasiorek and Chris (Connie) Kasiorek, all of Grand Rapids, Maria (Steve) Peterson of Fennville, Nicholas Mena of Grand Rapids and Erin Franzone of Parchment; eight great-grandchildren; a sister Jean Schwartz and a step-brother James (Lou) Camburn, all of Sturgis; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 PM at the Northwest United Methodist Church, 3140 N. Third St. and where a service to celebrate Jack's life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am with Pastor Sheila Baker officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jack's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Wings of Hope Hospice. Please visit www.langelands.com to leave a condolence to the family.
