Kalamazoo Went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 24, 2009. She was born June 22, 1910 in Mesick, MI, a daughter of Wilson and Mabel (Mc Clish) Furney and had been a resident of the Kalamazoo area for over 70 years. Doris was affiliated with the Valley View Bible Church and was employed by Allen Electric for 20 years. On July 10, 1942, she united in marriage to Irving S. Stanton, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, John D. Grissom; a great granddaughter, Tina Louise Johnson; two brothers, Delphin Furney and Leonard N. Furney; three sisters, Audrey Fonner, Marion Irey and Ruth Meulman. Doris is survived by her children, Charlene J. Grissom of Portage, Robert W. (Beverly) Gabel of Parchment, Ronald E. Gabel of Kalamazoo and Kay A. Gabel of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Laura Lee Dennison, Cindy Sue Connoy and Paul Douglas Grissom; 4 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephew! s. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Pastor B. J. Luce officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Memorials may be given to Valley View Bible Church, Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the charity of one's choice.
