Age 71 Of Edwardsburg, MI Formerly of Kalamazoo and Constantine Passed January 2, 2010 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after a brief illness. James was born May 12, 1938 in Kalamazoo, the son of Francis G. and Margaret (Maturen) Heflin. He moved to the Edwardsburg area 12 years ago from Constantine. He was married November 26, 1960 in Paw Paw, MI to Renae Peterson who survives. Other survivors are his children, Molly Heflin of Chicago, Patricia Klinger of Edwardsburg, Michael Heflin of Washington DC, Matthew (Amy) Heflin of Edwardsburg, Frank Heflin of Portage, and Brian (Susan) Heflin of Ft. Wayne. There are ten loving grandchildren. He has five siblings, Mary Beth (Joe) Boyle of Minnesota, Terri O'Dell of Paw Paw, Robert (Barb) Heflin of Traverse City, MI., William (Bonnie) Helfin of Mendon, MI and David (Carol) Heflin of Portage. Members of the family who have passed are his parents, a son-in-law, David Klinger an infant grandchild, Gabrielle Jane Heflin on 5-23-08 and brother Tom Heflin. James was a member of Our Lady of The Lake C! atholic Church, Edwardsburg and the Church's Knight's Of Columbus. He had been past President of Junior Chamber Of Commerce of Constantine, former member of Constantine Rotary Club, former Clerk of Constantine Twp. He enjoyed having horses for years and was a member of Michigan Harness Horsemans Assoc. and a member of the U.S. Trotting Assoc. Most recently, James worked for ABC Warehouse in Mishawaka, in sales. Friends and family may gather from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in the social room of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US-12 East Edwardsburg. The Mass of Resurrection will be Thursday at 11:00 AM, January 7, 2010 at the church with Father Joe McCormick, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Adamsville Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at the church Wednesday evening at 7:30 PM led by the Priest. Arrangements are by Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home Edwardsburg, MI.
