Although her parents emigrated here from Sweden, she was born in Bismarck, North Dakota on June 22, 1923. She divided her time between Sweden and Bismarck when she growing up. She attended Mills College in Oakland, California, graduating in 1945. She continued her education and obtained a Masters degree in 1947. Chris started her professional career with Halle Brothers Department Store in Cleveland, Ohio where she worked as a buyer. There she met her future husband Frank N. Jarvis. They were married on September 1st, 1951 in Columbus, Ohio. They had two sons, George and Frank. Chris left her career so she could stay home to raise their two sons. Aside from raising her family, she also volunteered her time at the Cleveland Clinic and enjoyed participating in sailboat races with her husband on Lake Erie. The family moved to Kalamazoo in 1972 when Frank accepted a position with Gilmore Brothers Department Stor! e. After retirement, Chris and Frank traveled extensively, including trips to Russia and China, and an extended 6-month stay in London where Chris was able to attend performances of theater and ballet, which she enjoyed so much. Chris Jarvis died at home on January 16, 2010. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Frank Jarvis; her two sons George and Frank, (Nancy Jarvis); a grandson, Christopher Cinq-Mars Jarvis; and a brother, Gilbert Olson. There will be a reception at Kalamazoo Country Club on Thursday, January 21, in the evening, from 5-7 PM. Donations in Chris' name may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah or Ministry with Community, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
