Age 89 Of Richland, MI Formerly Aberdeen, SD The funeral service for Carolyn A. Gardner, age 89, of Richland, MI, and formerly of Warner, will be 10:30 AM Monday, September 13, 2010, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Harold E. Salem officiating. Burial will be at Warner Township Cemetery, Warner, SD. Carolyn passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, September 8, at the Tender Care Nursing Home at Portage, MI. Visitation will be from 2 PM to 6 PM Sunday at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen. Carolyn Wood was born January 30, 1921, in Warner, SD to Esther and James Wood. On December 19, 1939, she married Roy Gardner in Webster, SD. Carolyn worked for George Leighton and Nash Finch in Aberdeen until 1951 when Carolyn and Roy moved to Sioux Falls with their three children. She worked for the Nash Finch Company and The Gas Company of Sioux Falls as Accounts Receivable/ Payable until 1968. The next few years took her to Minneapolis and Omaha, where she enjoyed gardening, decorating and creating beau! tiful and intricate keepsake quilts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gardner, shortly after moving to Omaha, NE in 1972. Carolyn continued to enjoy quilting and remodeling homes after retiring from Pamida in Omaha, NE. She then returned to her hometown of Warner, SD before moving to Richland, MI to receive special care from her daughter. Grateful for having shared Carolyn's life are her daughters, Karen Lee Brower, Sioux Falls, SD and Jamie Gardner Rehfeld, Richland, MI; son, Arthur James Gardner, North Platte, NE; sisters, Beverly Christensen, Luverne, MN, Ramona Keller, Pembina, ND; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Gardner; brother, Bud Wood; sisters, Joyce Wood and Donna Kuhfeld.
