After a few years of medical decline, Ken succumbed to a short illness. He was lovingly cared for by caregivers at Kairos Dwelling. He passed peacefully to join his Savior, family and many friends gone before. Ken was the second of three sons born to William and Anne Zigterman. He was born, raised and schooled in and around Highland, IN. Ken served his country as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. Ken was skilled in many aspects of the building trades. He also worked for several companies running and maintaining machines. He was a hard and faithful worker and his fellow friends at work enjoyed and appreciated him and his sense of humor. Ken was a member of Covenant United Reformed Church, and wherever he lived, he faith-fully attended services. He served the churches as an elder, deacon, clerk, Sunday school teacher and friend. He welcomed visitors warmly and was a man who was neither unduly proud nor vain. He! tried to live by admonitions of Proverbs, especially Prov. 22:1: "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches. Loving favor rather than silver or gold." Ken met his wife, Judy in 1952. They were married in 1955 and were blessed with 55 years together. Ken leaves to mourn his absence, his wife, Judy; sons, Mark (JoAnn) and Brian (Lori); grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jessica), Jamie (Kevin) Kari and Kaitlynn; great grandchildren, Rylee and Max. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; two step-fathers; a brother, Wallace; a son, Steven; and a grandson, Steven Mark. Missing him will be a sister-in-law, Margaret; his brother, Ron (Chris); sisters-in-law, Betty Jonker and Jackie (Glenn) De Jong; many nieces, nephews and friends will remember him. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM in the Covenant United Reformed Church, 3724 Lovers Lane, with Rev. Arthur Bestemen, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage C! hapel, 411 E. Centre Ave. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.
