Evelyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Kalamazoo. Evelyn was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton in 1996; her son James, in 2000; three brothers, Chester Mates; Theodore Mates and Joseph Mates and a sister, Bernice Johnson. Surviving are her children, Linda (Rick) Baughman of Palm Springs, CA; Kathy (Dave) Bloom of Houghton Lake, MI; Jackie (Warren) Smith of Grand Rapids, MI; Mary Jo Mears of Kalamazoo, MI; Michelle (Carl) Commons of Wayland, MI; twenty grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Matecki of Kalamazoo; Edmund (Caroline) Matecki of Wayland, MI; a sister, Barbara Miller of Portage and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 936 Lake Street, Kalamazoo where Mass of Christian Burial will immedi! ately follow at 11:00 AM. Msgr. Michael Hazard Celebrant. A luncheon will be held in the church gym following the Mass. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Hillards, MI.
