Of Augusta Marjorie G. Goldsmith passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Battle Creek Health System in Battle Creek, Michigan. She was born April 25, 1925 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She attended high school in Bridgeport, West Virginia where she developed her lifelong love of music participating in band as a drum majorette. In 1943 she enrolled at West Virginia University in Morgantown. After one year, she transferred to Ohio State University where she was a cheerleader. She completed her B.A., graduating with a degree in journalism. After graduating from OSU she returned home to Clarksburg for a year to work at the local paper. She also worked in Washington DC before accepting a position at the Kalamazoo Gazette in 1953. As editor of the Family Living section, she received awards from the Women's Division of the Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce for contributions to the community's civic, cultural and religious growth and from the General Federation of Women's Club for her ou! tstanding assistance in aiding the goals of the Community Improvement Program. She retired from the Gazette in 1992 with a lifetime of stories gathered in the Kalamazoo area. In her retirement years she remained an avid reader of newspapers and news magazines. She kept busy going to the gym 3 times a week, gardening and doting on her cats. But, in the fall, nothing could distract her from college football, especially the Big Ten Conference. To say she was a fan of The Ohio State University is an understatement. She was probably the most enthusiastic Ohio State University fan around. She is survived by her brother, John W. Goldsmith of New Smyrna Beach, FL; nephews, Steve Goldsmith of Naples, FL, David Goldsmith of Carol Stream, IL; niece, Rita (Goldsmith) Quinn of Martinsburg, WV; and cousins, Ann Schreiner of Winchester, VA, John Schreiner of Winchester, VA and Fred Schreiner of Franklin, TN. She will be missed by family and many friends. Donations may be made to The Jimmy! Carter Center Habitat for Humanity. GO BUCKS! Visitation: 11:00 to 12 :00 PM Tuesday, September 14, 2010 with funeral services to follow at 12 noon at the Richland Area Community Center with Pastor Jim Dyke officiating.
