Mr. Erickson was born on July 8, 1922 in Lombard, Illinois, the son of the late Gustave and Sarah Erickson. His family moved to Bear Lake, Michigan in 1935. Following graduation from Bear Lake High School in 1942, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Pacific during World War II as an airplane electrical mechanic. He returned to Michigan following his discharge and married Doris Mae Nugent on June 12, 1946. Bob worked for the Upjohn Company for 30 years in the chemical engineering department. Following his retirement, he and Doris traveled the United States extensively in their Airstream trailer. In 1992, they purchased a home in Sebring, Florida and divided their time between Florida and two homes in Michigan, Climax and Arcadia. Bob will be lovingly remembered by Doris, his wife of ! 63 years; his three living children, Linda (John) Lehtinen, Lila (Gilbert) Collver and Howard (Judy) Erickson; six gradchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Eric. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the American Legion Post 465 in Climax, Michigan, at 12:00 noon. Pastor Jim Dyke will officiate a celebration of Bob's life. Memorial donations may be made to Borgess Hospice. Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 3/13/2008.
