Lucyle was born August 6, 1926 in Woodstock, Illinois, the daughter and only child of Dr. Edward Miller and Nina (Katzenberg) Sieberg. Her mother passed away soon after Lucyle's birth. She was raised by her dentist father, step-mother, aunt and grandparents. At the age of 16, Lucyle's step-mother died. Two years later her beloved father was stricken by a fatal heart attack. Lucyle attended school in Genoa City, Wisconsin and graduated from Genoa City High School in 1944. She was baptized April 14, 1943 at Genoa City's Methodist Church. She attended La Cross State Teachers College in La Cross, Wisconsin in 1944-1946. On October 6, 1947, Lucyle married George Trewyn in Waukegan, Illinois. The marriage ended the following year. She then attended and graduated from the Vogue-Ray School of Chicago in 1950, and began an extensive career in interior design. During the 1950s and 1960s, Lucyle's career took h! er to Boston, Milwaukee, Madison, Minneapolis and New Ulm, Minnesota. In 1961 Lucyle opened her own "Lucy's Interiors" on 19 N. Broadway, New Ulm, MN. That business became "Lucie Sieberg Interior Design" when she moved to Michigan in 1969. Beginning in 1970 and for the next 18 years, Lucyle worked for the Kalamazoo Public Museum as a coordinator of museum exhibits, who cataloged, inventoried and repaired artifacts. Many who were schoolchildren during that era will remember Lucyle as the woman who operated the Museum's Loan Collection, which allowed patrons to borrow cases containing museum artifacts for use in reports or during presentations. On her retirement Lucyle joined the Portage Senior Center and joined an exercise class. For several years she ran the coffee bar at the center. During her adult life, Lucyle was an avid collector of antiques, an artist in drawing and oils, and a fancier of cats. Lucyle owned several registered cats, the most notable being a female Burm! ese named "Pyo-Ping's My Lady of Holly Farm" and a female seal-point S iamese named "Kitti Kattery." There were many other Siamese in her life, namely Purrsia, Sasha, John Charles, and many domestic short-hairs, the most recent being Charley and Johnny. Lucyle is survived by a cousin on her father's side of the family, Elaine Strand of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and several Katzenberg cousins on her mother's side of the family, including Michael and Jean Katzenberg of Burlington and Genoa City, Wisconsin. Lucyle leaves behind several close friends in Portage and Kalamazoo, including the Joel Orosz family, Marge and Mary Prange, Julie Campbell, members of the Portage Senior Center's Body Rebound Class, and wonderful neighbors, Otto Buder and Tammy Wyatt. At her wishes, Lucyle will be cremated and her ashes will be spread at a personal site. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 3 PM at the Portage Senior Center, 320 Library Lane. Memorials may be directed to the Portage Senior Center or to the Kalamazoo Humane Society. Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 3/21/2008.
