She was born July 14, 1923, in Traverse city, Michigan to the late Frank Edwin and Georgiaetta Ashton. The beautiful Ashton Park was a gift of her family to the residents of Traverse City many years ago. She attended the University of Michigan where she obtained her Masters Degree in Nursing. During her long career as a Registered Nurse she became the head of Nursing at Munson Hospital (now Munson Medical Center) in Traverse City. Eventually she moved to Kalamazoo where she was employed for many years at the Upjohn Company as an industrial nurse. In 1981, she was united in marriage to the late John D. Littig M.D. She was an excellent cook who loved to entertain friends and family. She was an assistant at The Kalamazoo Kennel Club and involved in many philanthropic activities throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by her fami! ly and all who knew her. Joanne is survived by her stepson Lawrence Littig of South Salem, New York, her step-grandchildren Lawrence W. Littig Jr. (Kipp) and wife Jill along with great-grandchildren Emma, Lauren and Trescher of Fairfield, CT, John S. Littig and Lynn of Brooklyn, New York, Lisa Ann Tucker and husband Adam of New York City, she is further survived by her cousin Jean Meyers of Muskegon, Michigan, nieces Sandra Taylor and husband Glenn of Ft. Worth, Texas, Carol Lidstrom and husband Craig of Farmington Hills, Michigan, nephew John E. Ashton Jr. of Scottsdale, Arizona, ten great-nephews and nieces and 17 great-great grand nephews and nieces along with many dear friends. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brother John Edwin Sr. As per her wishes there will be no services.
