TUCKEY - Of Portage, We lost our husband, father, and friend on Sunday, November 2, 1997, after injury and illness. Born August 10, 1937 in Portage to Charles J. and Margaret M. (BARNES) TUCKEY. Al was raised in the Long Lake area, and was a lifelong Portage resident, except for a short sojourn in Las Vegas. He started worked at an early age, spending 8 years in machine shops and tool and die, then going on to his real love, spending the 18 years with the local Sheriffs Dept. as a deputy, Sergeant, and Chief Deputy. Following his career in law enforcement, he started a motorcycle sales and repair shop, ending with two complete Kawaski [sic] dealerships. The past five years were spent in sales, and he was currently employed at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park as a Family Service Counselor. Al was a member of Masonic Lodge #340 in Portage, and other interests included R.V. traveling and computers, as well as being a fan of TV boxing and racing. We'll most remember h! is sense of humor, his commitment to his family, and his loyalty and affection for life-long friends. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart and wife, Marlene; and three children, Deborah L. and husband, Joseph GRIER of Grand Rapids, Charles J. TUCKEY and Chris A. TUCKEY, both of Kalamazoo. In addition, he has two grandsons, Troy TUCKEY and little Albert Joseph TUCKEY. He also leaves three step-grandchildren and their families; and a sister, Charlyn HORNE of Mattawan, along with many special friends. Although we will miss him sorely, we are comforted to know that he achieved most of his dreams and had few regrets. The family will receive friends at the Heritage Funeral Home Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at a time to be announced. Interment will be at Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Heritage Funeral Home, 4102 S.
