He was born December 14, 1919 in Kalamazoo, the son of the late Jacob and Maria (De Vries) Meeuwse. A lifelong resident of Parchment and Kalamazoo, he was married for 54 years to Frances Ruth De Young, who preceded him in death on September 22, 1995. On March 8, 1997, he was married to Betty DeHaan, who survives him and lives in Chicago, IL. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army during WW II. He retired from James River Corporation (formerly Sutherland Paper and the Brown Company) after working as a pressman for 42 years and from Adventure Travel, after working as a courier for 10 years. He served God faithfully as a volunteer for many ministries of the Christian Reformed Church, and was a member, teacher and elder of the Second Christian Reformed Church. He was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Engbert, Jacob and Frank. Survivi! ng are a sister, Nell Pohlers of Gobles and a brother, Tony (Merrilie) Meeuwse of Kalamazoo; sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann Muse and Helen Meeuwse of Kalamazoo; sons, Henry (Kristi) of Charleston, SC and Jim (Cathy) of Kalamazoo; step-son, David (JoAnn) DeHaan of Tinley Park, IL; a friend he considered as a daughter, Marsha Meeuwse-Hutson (Ron) of Owosso; grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, Matthew, Kelly, Holly, Eric, Megan, David, Mark, Daniel and Steven; several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Rd. where friends are invited to visit with the family an hour prior to the service or at a reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. A private committal service will take place in the East Cooper Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, 222 N.
