She was born March 30, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of the late DeGarmo and Evelyn (Lay) Hickmott. Susan served her country in the United States Navy, The Waves, during World War II. Susan attended State High School, Kalamazoo, MI. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Western State Teachers College. The predecessor of Western Michigan University, her Master's Degree from Ohio State and her PhD from Columbia University, NYC. For almost 30 years, Susan taught Pre-Kindergarten at Bugbee School, Oneonta, NY. She was also a professor at State University College at Oneonta, retiring in 1979. Susan was a member of the Chenango Valley Doll Club and the First Presbyterian Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Susan is survived by her brother, Thomas W. Hickmott of Niskayuna, NY; as well a several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. At Susan's request, there will be no calling! hours or funeral services.
