Of Kalamazoo Passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Tessie was born February 23, 1914 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of Anthony and Jennie (DeCarlo) Furgione. They later moved to a small farm in Hammonton, NJ, where she attended school and worked as an operator on Women's and Men's Clothing. She was a Kalamazoo area resident for over 60 years working for Michigan Bell and later Bronson Hospital for 10 years as a ward clerk. Tessie loved working in the garden, also cooking and baking for family and friends. She was a member of the West Oshtemo Baptist Church and was a member of the DAV Auxiliary. On December 6, 1944, she was united in marriage to Joseph R. Pierce, who preceded her in death on December 26, 1993. Also preceding her in death were brothers, James, John and Thomas Furgione. Surviving are her siblings, Joseph Furgione, Lucy Ludlow and Rita Shields; many nieces, nephews, special friends and other relatives. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 PM at the Langeland ! Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street . Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at the West Oshtemo Baptist Church (10460 West KL Ave.) with Rev. John Hill, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
