Matthew was born March 16, 1910 in Groningen, The Netherlands, the son of Matthew and Elizabeth Kuiper. Matthew immigrated to the United States when he was five years old. He worked for Unifab for 33 years and was a member of Third Reformed Church. Matthew also enjoyed steam engine trains, bird watching and wildlife. On May 23, 1936, he was united in marriage to the former Margaret Baker, who preceded him in death in 1962. He was also preceded in death by his son, Matthew, Jr.; son-in-law, Stanley DeBoer and 10 brothers and sisters. Surviving are his daughter, Margaret DeBoer; three grandsons, James DeBoer, David (Anita) DeBoer, Edward DeBoer; a great-grandson, Elliot and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services were held today at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
