"Red" Of Kalamazoo Went to be with his Lord Monday evening February 1, 2010. Jim was born January 4, 1940 in Kalamazoo a son of the late William and Jessie (VanZanten) VanEngen. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963-1969. Jim was employed with Balkema Excavating for 56 years as a heavy equipment operator. He was a longtime member of Twin Lakes Reformed Church where he served as Elder and Deacon several times. Jim was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding dirt bikes, restoring cars, and watching NASCAR. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. On April 1, 1966 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, the former Loretta Wellington who survives. Also surviving are his children, Jodi (Joe) Walder of Delaware, Marci (David) Cushman of Kalamazoo, Mark Van Engen of Utah; five grandchildren, Lisa, Jaimi, Paige, Matthew, and Katy; his sisters and brother, Linda VanEngen, Larry (Natalie) VanEngen, MaryJo (Cal) Flegal; and several nieces, n! ephews, and cousins. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Jack VanEngen. A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 11:00 o'clock Friday at the Twin Lakes Reformed Church, 5475 Ravine Rd, with Pastor Ron Lugten officiating. Friends may meet the family Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Private family interment will be in West Cooper Cemetery.
