Of Kalamazoo Passed away February 2, 2010 at his residence. He was born September 14, 1937 in Kalamazoo, to the late Ray and Helen (Waldo) Slater. Boyd was united in marriage on June 30, 1990 to the former Yvonne Wilkins, who survives. Boyd had a lifelong devotion to music. He sang, played guitar, bass, trumpet and performed in several bands locally and around the country. Boyd served in the U.S. Marine Corps from February 1956 until February of 1959. Also surviving Boyd are his children, Rick (Susan) Slater and Christine (Phil) Clute both of Kalamazoo; three stepsons and one stepdaughter; several grand and great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister; and several nieces and nephews. Also preceding Boyd in death was a brother and a sister. Services will take place Friday, 12:30, at First Free Will Baptist Church, 630 Moline St., Kalamazoo, MI 49001, where family will greet friends one hour prior to services, 11:30 - 12:30.
