Roberta was born on December 25, 1934 in Perrysville, IN and moved to the Gull Lake area after she retired from teaching in 1999. She was the daughter of Robert A. and Ruth M. (Carter) Coleman. Roberta retired in 1999 after 45 years of teaching school, with her final assignment as a 1st grade teacher at the Patricksburg (IN) Elementary School. She was a member of the Sweet Adeline's of the Mid Lakes Chorus of Richland, MI and had sang in the chorus at the Richland Bible Church. Roberta enjoyed walking, singing, reading, gardening and playing the piano. Her true passion in life was spending time with children, especially attending her grandchildren's sporting and music events at the Gull Lake Schools. Surviving are her two daughters, Garnet Ruth (Jim) Hocker of Augusta, MI and Patricia Lynn Gibson of Nashville, TN! ; her son, James Langley (Lori) Gibson of Richland, MI; seven grandchildren, Corie (Jason) Wendzel, Dave (Cerissa) Hocker, Dan Hocker, Madeleine Gibson, Garrison Hocker, Coleman Gibson and Susannah Hocker; three great grandchildren, Lily and Tessa Wendzel and James Hocker; three sisters, Sandra (Louis) Green, Myrna (Al) Harden and Myra Deckard, all of Crawfordsville, IN; her brother, Clyde (Georgiann) Cloeman of Crawfordsville, IN and her sister-in-law, Shirley Coffing of Kingman, IN. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Dale Coleman. The Memorial Service to celebrate Roberta's life will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the West Liberty Church of Christ of Covington, IN at 2:00 PM. Final interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, IN. Memorial contributions in Roberta's honor may be made to the Roberta Marie Gibson Memorial Fund - Patricksburg Elementary School Kindness Fund, P.O. Box 212, Patricksburg, IN, 47455.
