He was born in Nauvoo, AL on January 18, 1925 to Mansel and Annie (Knight) Comer. He attended high school in Nauvoo and worked for Civil Services in 1944-45 in Hawaii. Lloyd came to Kalamazoo in 1947 and was drafted into the Army on January 2, 1949. He took basic training at Camp Brekenridge, KY and served in Kumamoto, Japan. He was discharged in February 1950 into the Inactive Reserves. On September 16, 1950 he married Joyce (Belland) Comer and was called back to active duty on October 16, 1950 serving ten months in Korea. Lloyd retired from Brown Company on August 29, 1980 after 33 years of service. He was active in Local 1010 (AFL-CIO) paper workers' union serving as a steward and also on the Brown Company Employees' Credit Union where he served on the Board of Directors for 15 years. He enjoyed bowling, being a member of the Brown Company Big 12 Bowling League and served as a Secretary-Treasurer for 15 years. In 1980 the famil! y moved to Phoenix, returning to Kalamazoo in 1984. He then drove for CBC Laboratories for seven years retiring in 1993. Lloyd loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Portage. He loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. Surviving him are his wife, Joyce; three children, Beth Woods of Mesa, AZ, Jeff (Cindy) Comer of Vicksburg and Cheryl (Tom) Sieli of Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren, Joyce (John) Higginbotham of Buckeye, AZ, Matthew Comer of Kalamazoo and David (Megan) Comer of Portage and three great-grandsons, Michael Simon and Jacob and Isaac Higginbotham of Buckeye, AZ. There will be no funeral. Lloyd has been cremated as was his wish. There will be a visitation at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 21, 2008 and a memorial service at 11:00, First Baptist Church of Portage, 1133 E. Centre with luncheon to follow.
