Clayton was born on January 10, 1930 in Kalamazoo, to Clayton M. Sutton, Sr. and Pauline Sutton, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Sutton who resides in The Villages, Florida and four children and their spouses, Robin (Tim) Moore of St. Joseph, Michigan, David (Elisabeth) Sutton of Orlando, Florida, Lisa (Tom) VanDis of Richland, Michigan and Paul (Connie) Sutton of Lady Lake, Florida. Clayton also leaves 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service took place in Bellevue, Florida. Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 6/8/2008.
