She was there reunited with her beloved daughter, Sharon Beaty Roberson and other loved ones gone on before her, a sister and three brothers. Lorena passed away at Borgess Nursing Home where she had been a resident since March of 2006 due to injuries from a fall. Lorena's earthy life began February 7, 1924 in eastern Tennessee, not far from the awesome Smoky Mountains. She grew up in Morgan County, raised by parents, the late Elijah and Matilda Ward. She came to Kalamazoo where her hometown sweetheart Woodrow Beaty had moved when he found employment in a local paper company. They were married in Kalamazoo and from this marriage two daughters and one son were born. Woodrow preceded her in death in 1990. Prior to her retirement she was employed at Borgess Medical Center for approximately 25 years. Lorena is survi! ved by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Raleigh Thomas; her son, Dale Beaty; two grand-daughters, Toni Roberson-Macigewski and Kasonya Beaty; three grandsons, Tom Roberson and Kenneth and Nathan Beaty; 11 great- grandchildren; a son-in-law, Tom Roberson; four sisters and two brothers and several nieces and nephews. Lorena truly believed the Bible was the inspired Word of God and in the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Years ago she had become a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Comstock, MI and regularly attended services there until due to health reasons she gave up driving and transportation to the church became a problem. She then "attended" church through Christian Television. She loved gospel music and especially enjoyed Bill and Gloria Gaither and all their homecoming friends. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at PARCHMENT-REDMOND Funeral Home 2300 East G Ave - 349-7735 Graveside Services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM by Reverend Ray Steigenga at West Cooper Cemetery on Douglas Avenue. The family requests no flowers but that anyone considering a memorial to make it a more lasing one by giving to Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels, The Kalamazoo Gospel Mission or a charity of their choice.
