Elizabeth was born January 30, 1918, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and St. Augustine High School, where she graduated with honors in 1936. She attended Western Michigan Teachers' College in Kalamazoo, and began her career teaching primary school in Brooklyn, Michigan. Elizabeth married Walter Paynick of Paw Paw, in 1942. The couple moved to Detroit, where Elizabeth worked for thirty years in the Detroit Public School System. After retirement, Betty and Walt divided their time between Michigan and Florida. Elizabeth was preceded in death by Walter (1987), and is survived by her daughters Patricia, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and Janice, of St. Paul, Minnesota, and by three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
