Of Kalamazoo, MI Lawrence went home to be with the Lord Wednesday evening June 25, 2008. He was born July 11, 1924 in Kalamazoo, Michigan a son of Lawrence and Retha (VanOcker) Schroeder. He was a 1942 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. During WWII, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the Upjohn Company for 32 years, retiring in 1982. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. On November 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Helen J. Johnson who survives. Also surviving, two daughters, Judith Meskil Willbrandt of Williamsburg, VA and Carleen (Ray) VanderBok of Saline, MI; a son, Randy (Beth) Schroeder of Kalamazoo; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Private services and burial will be held in Fort Custer National Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund.
