Jim was born July 5, 1947 in Washington D.C., a son of Leonard and Ruth Schroder. He graduated from Vicksburg in 1966 and then served in the Army from 1966 through 1968. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was employed with the James River Corporation for 32 years, retiring in 2000. Following his retirement he was a resident of the Good Samaritan Health and Rehab Center located in Antioch, Tennessee. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert "Bob" Martin. On April 1, 1989, he was united in marriage to Patricia K Carlton, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Kevin (Jennifer) Allman of Tennessee, Brian (Kerri) Martin of Michigan, Matthew (Tammi) Martin of Tennessee, and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. The family requests your presence at a luncheon immediately following the memori! al service at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 3269 East G Avenue, Kalamazoo. Memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Health and Rehab Center, 500 Hickory Hollow Terrace, Antioch, Tennessee.
