Billie Joe was born in Monroe, North Carolina, Dec. 11, 1932, the son of George & Gatha (Cauble) Harris. He served his country honorably for four years in the Air Force. On March 28, 1953, he married his wife, Doreen Newell, in Salisbury, England and remained married for 54 years. Billie was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He retired from the James River Company after 32 years. He was a Boy Scout leader of Troop #239. Billie is survived by his wife; a son, Paul (Nancy) Harris of Grand Rapids, MI; two daughters, Shirley Ann (Jerry) Amos of Comstock, Nancy (Dan) Wyman of Kalamazoo. Also surviving are five grandsons, Brian (Heather) Amos, James Amos, Daniel Harris, Billy Joe Harris and Peter Wyman; three granddaughters, Shannon (Bob) Haskins, Chelsea Harris and Hannah Wyman; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents and a sister, Georgia LaMarch. Visitation will take! place on Thursday Jan. 31st from 6-8 PM at the Kalamazoo Missionary Church, 5045 E. Michigan, where services will be held 10 o'clock Friday morning at the church, with Pastor Ken Smeader, officiating. Committal services will be held 12 o'clock Friday at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors by the Ft. Custer Honor Guard (please meet in the Cortege Assembly Area between 11:45 and 11:55).
