She was born December 19, 1967, the daughter of Florence M. Ayers and Willie A. Ayers, in Kalamazoo, MI. Tonya attended Kalamazoo Central High School. She formerly resided and worked in Tampa, FL, as a Nursing Assistant, until illness prevented her from doing so, and brought her home. She was baptized at Christian Life Center, in Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by her brother, Tyrone A. Phillips; maternal grandparents, Dorothy and Harold Bell; and paternal grandfather, Melvin Ayers. Tonya leaves to cherish her memories, her mother and father, Florence M. Ayers and Willie A. Ayers, of Kalamazoo, MI; her only son, Torian L. Ayers; paternal grandmother, Berline Cartwright; granddaughter, Nakela Walker; siblings, Yvonne, Tiffany, Lamont and Lamar Ayers, Tyrone (Brandi) Jackson, Marvita (Orlando) Little, Necole Jackson and Angelica (Cedric) Jenkins, all of Kalamazoo; Emanuel (Tiffany) Phillips, of Kentucky and special b! rothers-in-heart, Michael Anderson and Anthony Jefferson, both of Kalamazoo, MI; 7 nieces and nephews, Lamar Jr., Camille and A-lexis Ayers, Trevor and Deja Anderson, and Keyonna and Kajuan Jefferson; special cousins, Crystal Bell and Carmellea Abercrombie-Stokes, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Also, special friend, Pablo McMorriss, of Florida. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Pastor Addis Moore, officiating. Friends may view 3-6 p.m. Monday at the Harper Funeral Home, 521 Douglas Avenue, 342-1000. Interment Riverside Cemetery. Published in the Kalamazoo Gazette on 2/3/2008.
