Casper was born June 9, 1913 in Kalamazoo, a son of Koert and Emma (SCHREUDER) SPORTELL, and was a life long Kalamazoo area resident. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. In May 1979, he retired from Zurn Industries, where he had been a sheet metal worker for 38 years. He was a member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church, where he had served on the Consistory, and was a custodian for 11 years. Casper loved to golf and bowl. He was preceded in death by a brother, Martin SPORTELL in 1960. On May 22, 1941 he was united in marriage to the former Agnes DE VRIES, who survives. Also surviving are 2 children, Curtis (Marcia) SPORTELL of Grand Haven, MI and Marcia SPORTELL of Kalamazoo; 5 grandchildren, Chris SPORTELL, Eric (Melanie) SPORTELL, Tom, Jon, and Dan SPORTELL, all of Grand Haven; a brother, Henry (Ann) SPORTEL of Englewood, CO; 3 sisters, Winnie (Ben) VALKEMA, Wilma (Marvin) LA! ROY, AND GRACE (Bert) TRIEMSTRA, all of Kalamazoo; a sister-in-law, Grace SPORTELL of Kalamazoo; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held 1:00 o'clock Wednesday at Westwood Christian Reformed Church, 620 Northampton Rd., with the Rev. Mr. Mark Van't Hof and the Rev. Mr. Steven Van Heest officiating. Interment in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Memorial Chapel 622 S.
