Jenning W/M widower 67 yrs 6 mos 1 day POB: NY; DOD: May 26, 1898, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, MI; Cause of Death: Heart Failure; occ: Laborer; Father: Abraham Jennings of Kalamazoo and Mother: not listed Charles C. Jennings was found dead in bed at his home, 836 Portage street, (May 26, 1898) Thursday morning. A physician was called and pronounced the cause of death probably heart disease. Mr. Jennings retired Wednesday evening apparently in his usual health, though he had been in rather feeble health for some time. He has for many years been a resident of Kalamazoo, having first moved to this county in 1865 and to the city in 1869. He was a veteran of the civil war. During his residence here he has held several positions of trust, being deputy sheriff and in charge of city work several times. He was for several years, until about two years ago, engaged in the plumbing business. source: Kalamzoo Gazette May 27, 1898 I would think his Civil War record would be interesting. I do not have that information. The following are entries from the City of Kalamazoo directories. The first one appears to be this Charles C. Jennings, not sure about the other two. Jennings Charles C , foreman Kalamazoo Street Ry Co, residence 836 Portage.Jennings, John F, canvasser, boards 836 Portage, Kalamazoo City, 1887 Jennings Charles C , saloon, tobacco and cigars, 115 South Rose, residence 530 West Ransom, Village of Kalamazoo, 1883 Jennings Charles C , The Senate, 117 S Rose, Village of Kalamazoo, 1883 I have never seen the name of Jenney attached to these families, however I have just dealt with the time since they arrived in Kalamazoo.
