Age 79 Of Augusta Died Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Evergreen Manor. He was born April 26, 1928, the son of Gerrit and Sue (Brieve) VandenBerg in Holland. Gordon graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and attended Western Michigan University. He built and owned Maple Hills Golf Course where he taught many area people how to play golf. He also was a bus driver for Gull Lake Schools, retiring after 21 years. Gordon married Emma Jean Carrigan on September 7, 1956, she survives; also surviving are daughter, Karen VandenBerg of Battle Creek; son, Tim (Christine) VandenBerg of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Bryan and Jenna VandenBerg; sister, Gertrude (Jake) VanLou of Kalamazoo; brother, Ernie (Florence) VandenBerg of St. Augustine, Florida and several nieces and nephews. Gordon enjoyed golf, watching sports, traveling, going to casinos, spending time with his grandchildren and wintering in Florida. He was a long-time member of the Gull Lake Area Rotary Club, the First Presbyterian Church of B! attle Creek and the Western Michigan Superintendents Association. Friends are welcome to visit 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at the SHAW FUNERAL HOME 2838 Capital Ave., SW, Battle Creek 269-979-3838 Funeral will take place 11:00 AM Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Rev. Jeff Carlson, officiating. Interment, Day Cemetery, Ross Township. Memorial donations may go to Gull Lake Area Rotary Club or First Presbyterian Church.
