"Chuck" TAYLOR - 322 Garland, Kalamazoo, Chuck was born March 27, 1930, in Diamond Springs, MI, the son of Forest and Lavina (FLESER) TAYLOR. He graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor and Master's Degrees in Education. Chuck taught school in Custer, MI, and then in Kalamazoo at Hillside Junior High, where he had been a football coach, and at Kalamazoo Central High, retiring in 1985. He served in the US Air Force in Fairbanks, AK, during the Korean Conflict. Chuck was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and golfing, was as skilled craftsman, and he also loved cooking and gardening. His family includes his mother, Lavina TAYLOR of Allegan; 4 children and spouses, Deb and Jim WIDMAN and Jody and Doug SCHOETZOW, all of Portage. Michael and Stacy TAYLOR of Shelby, and Tim and Inger TAYLOR of Mattawan; a brother and wife, Ivan "Bud" and Fran TAYLOR of Allegan; a sister and husband, Arla and Burl SIMPSON of Hopkins; 7 grandchildren, Jason and Br! yan WIDMAN, Katherine and Kimberly SCHOETZOW , and T. J., Emily, and Alexander TAYLOR; and his loyal pet dog, Susie. Chuck died on Thursday, April 18, 1996 in Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian "Dody" TAYLOR in 1986, and by his father. Friends may visit with his family beginning at 6 PM Friday at the Rupert, Durham, Marshall & Gren Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday, Rev. Gordon Greene officiating. Private interment of cremains will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
