Portage Passed away February 11, 2008 at her residence. Joni was born April 19, 1955 in Muskegon, MI. She was employed for 17 years as a supervisor at the Upjohn Company. Joni was an active member of the Congregational Church of Mattawan and served as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was the beloved mother of Philip and Aliya Fadel, both of Portage; daughter of Philip and Marilyn (Niemeyer) Buwalda of Zeeland; sister of Robert Buwalda of Montague and Daniel Buwalda of Grand Haven; aunt to three nieces and one nephew. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 17 at 4:00 PM at the Congregational Church of Mattawan, 23680 Front Ave. with the Rev. Jonathan Lam officiating. Memorial contributions in Joni's memory may be made to the Building Fund at the Congregational Church of Mattawan.
