Kalamazoo Mr. Holaday passed away early Thursday morning, Feb. 14, 2008 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Clayton was known for his kindness and integrity; he was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He was born July 20, 1918 in Grand Ledge, MI; the youngest of three children to the late Robert and Effie May (Hooks) Holaday. Clayton was employed by Western Michigan University as an English Professor for 24 years, until his retirement in 1980. On July 8, 1944, he was married to Eileen Walsh in Youngstown, OH, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Michael (Beverly) Holaday of Grand Rapids, Susan (John) Darovec of Bradenton, FL, Margaret (Tim) Franklin of Kalamazoo, and Kate Holaday of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Andrew (Rebecca Lindsey) Holaday of Lansing, Elizabeth (Nathan Riggle) Holaday of Tucson, AZ, and Abby Franklin of Kalamazoo; and four great-grandchildren, Nitya and Narayan Taber, and Meredith and Simon Riggle. Preceding him in death were his parents; one s! ister, Margaret Hasenmueller; and one brother, Allan Holaday. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation or services. Family and friends will celebrate his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Loaves and Fishes, Kalamazoo Humane Society, or Kalamazoo Gospel Mission. Arrangements have been entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick Street. Clayton's online guest register is available at www.langelands.com.
