Commodore was born March 24, 1925, to Commodore and Mary Ella (Gardner) Carr, who preceded him in death. Commodore went to school in the Kalamazoo Public School System before joining the United States Navy. Upon his return from service, he met his future wife, Mary Jewel Kelly. They were joined in marriage on September 24, 1948. Born from this union, one son, Robert L. Carr. Commodore retired from the Burroughs Corporation in 1990, after many years of service. During his retirement, he was able to enjoy most of his favorite hobbies, which included watching all sports, working in his yard and most of all his bowling. He had won numerous trophies over the years through the TNBA and Senior League. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Mumb Lee and Willie James; one sister, Virgie Lee Palm and nephew, Gerald Mills. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and faithful wife of 59 years, Mary Jewel Carr; son, Robert;! grandson, Hajmil (Keyla) Carr of Chevy Chase, Maryland; granddaughter, Madiyaat Carr of Honolulu, Hawaii; one aunt, Tillie Givhans of Beloit, Wisconsin; two brother-in-laws, Otha (Lona) and Robert (Irene) Kelly; sister-in-law, Anita Turner, all of Kalamazoo; two great-grandchildren; a host of very special nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and special longtime friend, Willie Curtis, Jr. Services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday with a 12 noon family hour at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Pastor Addis Moore, officiating. Friends may view 3-6 PM Wednesday, at the Harper Funeral Home, 521 Douglas Avenue, 342-1000. Interment Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
