Alva was born December 25, 1960 in Vicksburg, Michigan a son of Elvin and Judith (Rand) Switzer. He had been a lifelong Kalamazoo area resident and was a self employed contractor for over 20 years. Alva was a strong determined fighter of cancer until his illness made it impossible for him to do physical activities, still he never lost hope or courage while fighting for his life. He was passionate about cars and construction. He is survived by his daughter, Kascandra Baldwin of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren, Jadin and Novaley; his father, Elvin (Linda) Switzer of Sterling, OH; his mother, Judith Switzer of Kalamazoo; two sisters, Donna Leversee and Robin Switzer both of Portage; a brother, Elvin Brett Switzer of Tennessee; his former wife, Teresa Holt of Kalamazoo; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service at the New Life Victory Church, 2775 S. 26th St. will be! announced at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the West Michigan Cancer Center.
