Nellie was born in Kalamazoo on July 13, 1924, the daughter of Anthony and Mary (Chodacznik) Socha. She was a proofreader and performed photo composition at Kalamazoo Photo Comp. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, and volunteered for the democratic party. Nellie is survived by her husband, Richard whom she married July 5, 1947; son, James (Kim) Verdon of Kalamazoo; daughter, Maribeth (Tim) Andrews of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Joshua, Stephanie Andrews, Holly and Corey Verdon; brother, Stanley (Cathy) Socha; sisters, Stella DeLach and Victoria (Ted) Miller all of Kalamazoo; several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 until 8 PM at REDMOND Funeral Home 4100 S. Westnedge 343-6156 where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at 10:30 AM, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Fr. James O'Leary Celebrant. Interment will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 1:30 PM Wednesday. Please gather at the cortege assembly area at Ft. Custer at 1:15 PM. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to Borgess VNA Hospice or Covenant Adult Care Center.
