Of Schoolcraft Died March 16, 2010 at Borgess Pipp Hospital in Plainwell. Barbara was born August 18, 1927 in Kalamazoo, a daughter of Harold and Gladys Taft and had lived in Schoolcraft for the past 48 years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed in quality control, shipping and a relief operator for many years at Arco in Schoolcraft and later for Plastic Engineering, Inc. in Portage. Barbara was attending the Recast Church of Mattawan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed driving, but especially enjoyed knitting dish cloths for her children and grandchildren. On April 7, 1948, she was married to Donald Yax, who survives. Also surviving are five children, Larry A. (Cherie) Yax of Portage, twin daughters, Patsy A. (Larry) Aldrich of Schoolcraft and Patty A. (Jack) Noel of Kalamazoo, Donald L. (Shelley) Yax of Marcellus and Terry A. (Laura) Yax of Lawton; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was prece! ded in death by several brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 19th at 1 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. with Pastor Don Filcek officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 AM on Friday until the time of service at 1 PM. Private inurnment will be in Schoolcraft Cemetery at a later date. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barbara's name be made to Hospice Care of S.W. Michigan.
