Kalamazoo Lilah died Friday evening, February 19, 2010 in Kalamazoo. She was born April 6, 1909, in Alamo Township, a daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Barnes) Mastenbrook and had been a life long Kalamazoo area resident. She was a self-employed hairdresser, and also worked for the Kalamazoo Stationary Company, Mr. Irving S. Gilmore and the Kalamazoo Foundation. Lilah was an active and loyal member of North Park Reformed Church where, over the years, she was a member of the choir, Ladies Trio, Joy Group, and Ladies Guild. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and a Youth Group leader. Lilah volunteered at North Christian School with the Willing Workers. On June 9, 1931, Lilah was united in marriage with Robert A. Vande Polder who preceded her in death on December 4, 1985. She was also preceded in death by a son, Dr. Donald Vande Polder on January 31, 2007. Surviving are: a son, Robert N. (Betty) Vande Polder; a daughter, Brenda Pinkster; a daughter-in-law, Helen Vande Polder; 10 gra! ndchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Dykstra and Grace Vande Polder; and many nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held in Riverside Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 2:00 Sunday afternoon, February 28, 2010, at North Park Reformed Church, 1316 Barney Rd., with Rev. Paul Fazio, officiating. Lilah's family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to North Park Reformed Church.
